Yay for Pi!
And, no it's not the type you eat. It celebrates the mathematical constant, Pi.
Which is the symbol for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. It's today, because the date is 3/14. Pi= 3.1415926... They've actually calculated it out to over a trillion digits past the decimal.
It's an irrational and transcendental number. Which means it will continue to infinity without repeating. The symbol was first used in 1706 by William Jones. But, wasn't popular until it was adopted by a Swiss mathematician, Leonhard Euler in 1737. Larry Shaw, a physicist, created this holiday in 1989. It wasn't recognized as a holiday until 2009. I remember in one of my math classes, there was a competition to see who could remember the most digits past the decimal. Without looking. It was interesting. Some people celebrate by having pie.
It's also National Potato Chip Day.
It's been a little cold today. Last night, there was heavy rain and wind. I couldn't sleep, until the morning.
So, I had to sleep in. On top of that, I really don't feel good.
It's like I'm sick to my stomach, really warm, run over by a truck, and very lethargic. Fun fun! I know what might have caused it, though. I felt pretty run down the last few days too, so that's why I haven't posted in a while.
I feel horrible for what's going on in Japan. An 8.9 (some say 9) earthquake, tsunamis, and now the danger of a nuclear plant meltdown.
I just can't imagine what it's like. And, sadly I don't have any money to donate towards the recovery efforts.
There was a FB page that if you 'like' it they'd match the dollar amount and donate. (It's called Dog Bless You.) Plus, they're sending rescue dogs. They're target goal was 100,000 'likes'. They exceeded it. (In fact, right now they're at almost 126,000!) Really cool. I feel like I did something.
I also realized that my penpal lives in one of the hardest hit areas. I really hope she's ok.
I've been wanting to write her a letter for a while, and I made a rough draft of it yesterday. Before I finish the final version of the letter, I think I should email her first. I want to see if she's ok, and maybe even if I should send the letter somewhere else. Considering, her home may have been swept away. She told me she hates email, but that's the only way I can contact her.
I still might not hear from her right away. A lot of places are without power, and I don't know how good a cell signal would be there.
I tried to finish watching Kiina. But, couldn't find that last episode online. So, I put it on my 'incomplete drama' list. Hopefully, I'll get to finish those dramas in the future. I finished Juui Dolittle. It was a really great series. Had a pretty good ending. Left it open for a second season. This season did end pretty recently, so there's a high possibility.
There was a few surprises at the end too. It made me cry more than the other episodes. (I don't cry often.) If you see it you'll know what I mean.
I also finished Tokyo Wankei. A really nice and happy ending to the series. Mika and Ryosuke ended up together. The story about her and her mother was published. She regained her memories after reading it. Koichi realized he would be happier alone, and how much pain he caused Mika. So, he called off the engagement. Mika and Ryosuke are going to help 'bridge the gap' between the Koreans and the Japanese. Through his calligraphy of both hangul and kanji characters, and her publishing stories/articles about both cultures. Also, she's half Japanese and half Korean. The writer of the book turns out to be her half brother. Ryosuke's mother recovered from her psychotic break. Everyone ended up with a happy ending. I really liked this series.
It was interesting to see the 2 cultures clashing and coming together. I'm somewhat sad it ended, now.
Didn't go to services this time. Both Mom and I weren't feeling very well. She's been having really bad hip pain. Hope that gets better. Played some of the Sims 2. Taiwan finally had her baby. And, unlike how Prussia in the other family didn't pay any attention to Hungary giving birth; Hong Kong ran immediately to Taiwan. Looked incredibly worried. He wanted to hold the baby right away. It was somewhat cute. I called him Japan, by the way. If it was a girl it'd be China. Trying to keep the Hetalia theme. Not really as historically accurate, but fun. I made a small baby room for him, too. Didn't have enough money to paint the walls, but at least he has somewhere to sleep.
Posted a pic on dA: Park 6. I mostly caught up on messages and such today. I also translated a lot of the recipes I found, over the weekend. Might do more today. In Hetalia, supposedly, Seychelles makes an appearance. I'll have to watch it. Sounds interesting. I like when they introduce more countries. Can't believe St. Patrick's Day is coming up. I think we're doing the corned beef, potatoes, cabbage, and soda bread dinner thing again. Good stuff!
Crazy that Purim's only a couple of days later. Computer's running a bit slower than normal, so I'll post my dA and Youtube faves tomorrow.

Tonight's Shabbat Across America and Canada. It will be it's 15th anniversary. It's designed to provide every North American Jew with a 'taste' of Shabbat. It's kind of a way for people to learn more about it. It's run by the National Jewish Outreach Program. Usually, there's at least someone at each table who's willing to answer questions and/or help provide some discussion. I've been to a couple of them. It's a nice idea, and I'm for it. Although, it does get tiring.
We're not going to it this year. It's also National Pound Cake Day.
Also, tonight Mom's going to use the duck sauce with some chicken. I haven't had duck sauce in so long! For some reason, it's hard to get over here. Even at the Chinese restaurants. She's making sesame and ginger couscous, and broccoli too. We also got a banana creme pie! Yay!
The challah we usually get looks a little dry this time. We also got some soda bread. I love that stuff! Wish it was out all year round.
Wrote more of chapter 13. I'm setting up more of the history of their world. It's kind of fun.
(Yet, parts of it are very sad.) Also, developing one of the characters more in the story. He's sounding a bit more mysterious than I thought he would be.
Worked more on writing and translating the horoscope article in You Maga. Finally got to my horoscope sign. Which is, apparently, Venus. It's the 7th sign.
Played some more Mozart. It was slightly better than last time. Again, played one of the hardest tunes in that book. I hate how those tend to stay in the upper note range. I can play them. It's just somewhat annoying, and sometimes hurts my ears.
Kiina was really good this time. The chief played more of a role. Sad, but interesting story. About how the victim died, and managed to be preserved for 15 years in the ground. It's because of grave wax. That's also what happened to kid in France and has been preserved for 80 years. (I think it was in France.) It's pretty nasty stuff, though.
At least the process of how it happens. Next episode's the finale. Kind of sad. The characters are fun to watch and the stories are fascinating. They're based on real events and stories. It's like, the truth is stranger than fiction.
Worked a little on another character's sheet. He's been more fun to figure out than I thought. I'm about halfway through his sheet.
Started drawing another character's face. Decided on his expression and drew it out. Will probably edit that tomorrow. Then, I'll get his hair down, and edit the whole thing. And, I'll be done with the first sheet of characters.
Also, worked a little on building descriptions. Really fun getting a better pic of the building in my head. Still working on the same building. The details of it have been fun, too.
Played a little of the Sims 2. Hong Kong now has 2 best friends. Taiwan's apparently having problems with getting them. Yet, she's so social? Weird.She was promoted to intern. Which, I guess, will be better than a nurse. At least better pay. Working on Hong Kong to get promoted. He probably will once he comes back home. It's all very interesting. Things are different with each family.

Well, it's really tomorrow, but why not celebrate it early?It's his birthday. He founded the first company to manufacture blue jeans. Pretty cool.He was born in 1829 and died in 1902. He was a German-Jewish immigrant to the US. I guess you can celebrate by wearing jeans.
We had record lows last night. Around the mid-teens.Woke up to a heavy sheet of icy snow over everything. Yay!
They're thinking it may snow more on Sunday. I think Rosie is having fun trying to figure out new ways of waking me up.
This time she started playing with a plastic bag, then dragged it, and tried to bite at the contents. Why?
It's been there for a while, and you decide to do that when I'm half asleep? Crazy! Parents sound like they're having fun. Good for them! They deserve it.
Got even further into writing chapter 13. Everytime I start writing, the ideas just flow like crazy. Sometimes, I wonder if I've let a good idea slip.

Played some more Mozart. Improved a bit from last time. Tried the hardest tune in the book. Made some mistakes with that, but it wasn't too bad.Overall, I didn't make very many mistakes. Rosie checked out my clarinet, and wasn't afraid of it.Even when I played it right in front of her. Usually, Tasha runs as soon as she sees my case. Interesting.
For drawing, I finished 'fleshing' out Max's arms and legs. Working on his hands and feet. Finished with one hand. Looks a lot better than I thought it would. Hands are always a bit hard to draw.Hopefully, I'll finish the hands and feet on Sunday or Monday. Then, I can move on to clothes and inking. Wahoo!
Kiina was interesting, yet again. This one was about hypnosis, and planting false memories in someone. The criminal was someone's therapist. Her patient wanted to get over her plane phobia. The therapist used hypnotherapy to help her. But, while hypnotized, the therapist planted her own memories about someone swindling her, into her patient. She then told her patient to kill the swindler or something life threatening will happen. Luckily, the man didn't die and the patient wasn't prosecuted. They arrested the therapist, too. So, a good ending to this one. Not all of them end so happily.
I'm planning to make the panko breaded fish, mashed potatoes, and green beans for Shabbat dinner tonight. I'll probably add garlic and chives to the potatoes. And, make our 'famous' pink sauce for the fish.
Sounds so tasty!I'll also have the last chocolate muffin half. Those muffins are really good! Oh, and I'll have to see if there's a frozen challah. If not, I can just use some other type of bread. Sounds like I'm pretty much set.
Tomorrow morning, I can have my own services. And, I can do Havdalah that night. Which, I can use my new candle for it. Yay!

Today was the day Pluto was discovered.I thought it was a very interesting 'planet' when I researched it for school. Yes, back then, it was considered a planet!
It was discovered in 1930. That's pretty recent. It was disqualified as a planet in August 2006, due to new rules on planets. Planets must 'clear the neighborhood around its orbit.' Pluto's oblong orbit overlaps Neptune's. I still feel it's a planet, though.It's also Battery Day. To celebrate the birthday of the electric battery's inventor, Count Alessandro Volta. He was born in 1745. Batteries were an amazing invention! So, they should be celebrated.
It was pretty cold today. But, I saw it may be even colder this coming week. Great.
Possibility of snow too. My parents are going to San Francisco this Sunday. And, won't be back until next Sunday. I hope they have fun!I'll get a week to myself, which isn't bad either. It's a win-win.
Apparently, today's Gaia's 8-year anniversary. I can't believe they've been around that long.
I didn't hear about it when they first started. Saw it a couple of years into college, and hated it. It was somewhat confusing, and a little boring.I've been a user now for a couple of years. And, it's significantly better. They've really come a long way. Hopefully they'll improve even more in the future.
I finally did my nails again. It's kind of a confidence booster to me.Or, at least nice to look at. This time it's like a frosty grey with some pink mixed in. Looks a lot better than it sounds.
It's one of a few polishes that I have that aren't labelled. So, you don't know what you're really going to get. So far, so good though.
Watched Kiina. It was very interesting. Their episodes are supposedly based on true stories and facts. This time it was about a man who thought he was being cursed. He bought a bunch of things to try to counteract it. Lots of charms, dolls, masks, etc. One of his students tried cursing him too. She used a voodoo doll and stabbed it in the head. He actually died of a bee sting to the head. He was deathly allergic to them. So, the kid kept thinking she killed him. But, it turned out the teacher had a stalker from when he was in college. She began to get serious about it after an alumni meeting. She also worked at a place that she could easily get insects. Kiina thought that maybe the added stress of thinking he was cursed took a toll on his body already. So, he wasn't in very good health. I love how they presented the facts in this episode.
I started on a new article in You Maga to write out. I grew very tired of the one I was working on.Wasn't very interesting to me. I know what the mountains are like in this area, so I needed something a little different. So, I started an article in the New Year's edition. I'll probably do a lot more in this one, because there's so many more interesting articles. I started with one titled Fortune and Spiritual Guide. It's personalized based on the year you were born. So, it seems 'deeper' than just, like, a horoscope. I don't know. I guess I'll find out.Also, got a chance to read more of Dune.
