Erev Pesach 2012/5772

Mood::iconseychelles-plz:

Or the first night of Passover. (5772 is the Jewish calendar year.) I can't believe that tonight's the first night!:wow:Turns out there's a high possibility we will be going to the catered seder tonight. Yay!:dummy:I was beginning to worry that I, for the first time, wouldn't be going to/having a seder this year. I'm still not sure what I'll make for dinner during the week.:iconswissplz:Kind of hard under the restrictions. Since I'm Ashkenazic, the main things I can't have are bread (well all Jews can't have bread during it...), barley, spelt, wheat, oats, rye, rice, millet, corn, and legumes. (Ashkenazic Jews have eastern European ancestry. Sephardic Jews have Mediterranean, North African, and Middle Eastern ancestry.) The Sephardic Jews don't have quite as many restrictions. Makes it a bit difficult to plan for meals. But, there are options.:iconberwaldplz:It'll be interesting to see what the Pesach couscous is like, for one. Still haven't boiled some eggs, made charoset (a fruit/nut/wine mix. There's many different takes on it. Ours is a traditional and simple apple/walnut/wine mix. Symbolizes the mortar for the bricks the Israelites made for the Egyptians), and popovers. We eat a lot of eggs for lunches during it. The popovers are interesting, and they feel like actual dinner rolls.:iconthailandplz:Made out of matzah meal. (Ground up matzah.)
This is my wallpaper for the month. Thought it was kind of darkly cute, and it has a nice warm feeling from the colors.:iconchibicanadaplz:It's another Gaia online based wallpaper. It has the watermeat aquarium fish, and a ghost from zOMG. The fish is supposed to be super expensive (apparently everyone wants one), and I don't remember seeing the ghost on zOMG. I haven't played that game in a long time. Things have probably changed.:iconsleepygreeceplz:Anyways, it's a cute one. Found a couple more Gaia-themed wallpapers, so look forward to those.:la:

My Jewish calendar has an oil painting titled 'Burning of the chametz the day  before Passover', by Martin Monnickendam from Amsterdam in 1940. The smaller pics are of seder plates. One that's porcelain, from around 1850, and they don't know where it originated from. The other one is pottery and glaze, from Delft, Netherlands. From around 1750-1800. Kind of cool to see the really old stuff.:iconfrancisplz:The painting's kind of interesting. Traditionally, Jews gather up all the 'chametz' or leavened bread from their houses, and burn it the day before Passover starts. Not everybody does it though. The problem with cleaning out our 'chametz' from the house, is Dad isn't Jewish and doesn't follow the dietary laws. So, it makes it difficult to follow. We just try to keep the Pesach (or Passover) stuff separate.

My regular calendar, has an Easter theme. For an 'herb' calendar there aren't very many herbs in the pic.:iconchibijapanplz:It mostly just has rosemary. The rest of it has some roasted hens in the shape of a rooster and a chicken, eggs, and some flowers. Kind of feels like a weird theme to me. Although, it is very spring-ish.

Here's the month-long holidays: Brussels Sprouts and Cabbage Month, Celebrate Diversity Month, Cranberries and Gooseberries Month, Frog Month, International Guitar Month, Jazz Appreciation Month, National Decorating Month, National Garden Month, National Kite Month, National Pecan Month, National Poetry Month, Tomatillo and Asian Pear Month, National Soft Pretzel Month, National Garlic Month. Some are important causes, some are to make you appreciate things you may take for granted, and some are just for fun. A lot of great causes and foods being celebrated this month. Jazz and diversity are definitely something to celebrate. I love garlic!:iconitalyplz:

I think the people who were reviewing my scan forgot about me.:iconwtfromanoplz:Mom called them, and they were surprised by how long it had been. They said they didn't see anything wrong in the bone scan. So, the next step might be doing an MRI, since it might be soft tissue related instead of bone. But, I first have to talk to my new orthopedist about it.

Mom was so anemic, that on Tuesday she had to have a blood transfusion. (We were at the clinic for 6 hours!:iconitalyishorrifiedplz:) It makes it feel more 'real' or 'raw' for me now that this has come up. Plus, I can't do much for her, because of my shoulder. I think she has a CT scan coming up to see what's going on. One of the nurses said they may have to drain some of the liquid in her abdomen, thinking maybe it just needs to 'pop'. But, Mom feels it's just the tumor getting so big it's messing with her organs. Ooooh...Just great.:iconohboyamericaplz:

Watched the Kill Me Baby finale. It was ok. Better than most of the series has been. They could have done so much more with it.

Managed to design a few more characters out through tektek. They're turning out better as I go. I have such a clear image of most of my characters, except the main and Junko. I might think more about their design/look. If I can't convey them well to myself, I don't think I could for potential fans.:iconchibiaustriaplz:

Watched the finale for Daily Lives of High School Boys. Really hilarious, and I'm really hoping they do another season. I'll miss it. They hinted at the end that they may come back someday. Kind of similar to the way Gintama 'ended'...So, we'll see.:iconheroamericaplz:

Got back into playing my clarinet. Good way to relieve stress. Sounded pretty good.

Watched the Phi Brain season finale. It was a good ending, but honestly, I don't think I'll watch the next season.:iconusaplz:It kind of dragged, a couple of characters annoyed me, the art was a bit odd at times, too much angst during some episodes, etc. But, it had a good story, funny at times, a couple of characters I really liked (Ana, for example), and the puzzles were interesting. So, it was mixed for me. Not good enough to keep me for another season.:icontinoplz:

In Fairy Tail, Lucy found out that her father died while she had disappeared for 7 years. They were finally starting to reconnect. Natsu and Happy's safe is missing, so they don't have any money for food. Makarov 'talked' the loan sharks into backing down. Macao will apparently stay as the 4th Guild Master.

Naruto Shippuden was basically pointless. About Sasuke and Naruto meeting each other when they were kids. That was back in the previous 'series', why do they need to rehash that? If they needed a 'filler' make it interesting and new. I heard they won't go back to the main story until May. Kind of frustrating. The new opening's better than the last one, but not great. The ending's not bad.

I'm thinking of watching the rest of Pandora Hearts today and Saturday. Sunday, I hope to start another 'old' series, that I haven't seen before. I'll look at Code Geass first. Then, it'll be some new shows starting next Monday. Some have already aired recently, and some are coming up. I'll probably try Naruto SD, Acchi Kocchi, Shirokuma (Polar Bear) Cafe, and Nyarko-san: Crawling Chaos first. Interesting mix.:iconicelandfukkiretaplz:

Found and translated a Japanese recipe for cold tomato soup. Sounded pretty tasty, and somewhat easy. Couldn't find any more Pesach recipes.:iconromanoplz:

deviantART fave: The Capybara and the Guineapig April Fool's nom nom nom I did not make these! First, an interesting comparison between a guinea pig and a capybara. Second, a cute and dark drawing from an artist I watch. Third, a cool drawing, related somewhat to the theme dA did for April Fool's.

Youtube:
Funny collection of clips showing Gray's (from Fairy Tail) habit of unconsciously stripping. I didn't realize Cana, most of the time, is the first to notice when it happens:

One of the funniest clips from Gintama, of Sougo counting corpses instead of sheep:

Another hilarious clip from Gintama:

Breathe

Mood::iconnorwayfukkiretaplz:

By The Prodigy. This is another old fave. But, I think I'll always like it.:iconpolandplz:It's older than I thought. It was released as a single in November of 1996. This was a huge international hit. The band started in 1990, and are still going. Their an English band. They're credited as being pioneers of the big beat genre. Sold over 25 million records worldwide, and won many music awards. I really like a couple of their songs, the others seem kind of boring, honestly.:iconnorwayunimpressedplz:But, I can still recognize how talented they were, not too sure about now. Stopped hearing about them at some point.:iconheroamericaplz:

I was able to play my clarinet today and yesterday. Not for the full amount of time I would have liked, but it's something.:iconchibiamericaplz:Played some jazz today.
日本語
Went over another lesson in my Japanese sentence patterns book. This time it was about how い(i)-adjectives used as predicates behave like verbs. When 新しい(あたらしい or atarashii) is used as a predicate, it means 'is new', not just 'new'. So, in informal speech you can drop the だ (da or 'is') at the end of the sentence. But, if it's polite speech, you'd still use です (desu) at the end. な (na)- adjectives used as predicates behave like nouns. So when 有名な(ゆうめいな or yuumeina, or famous) is used as a predicate, the stem form (without the な) must be followed by だ or です. Kind of interesting. And makes a whole lot more sense to me now.:iconchibiaustriaplz:Also got the practice sentences correct. Yay!:dummy:The words they went over were: 若い(わかい or wakai) or young, 冷たい(つめたい or tsumetai) or cold (to the touch), コーヒー (koohii) or coffee, 正確な(せいかくな or seikakuna) or accurate.

Also, went over a kanji. It's 現, which can be pronounced as: あらわ.す(arawa.su), あらわ.れる(arawa.reru), うつつ(utsutsu), or げん (gen). It means actual, existing, present, indicate, reveal, emerge, materialize, reality, consciousness, current, now. For some reason, I have trouble saying the arawareru. But, I'm getting there.:iconeestiplz:

Found 2 Passover recipes. One's for meatballs, and the other one's a non-alcoholic drink called Orange Cream. They sound so good!:iconfrancisplz:Hope to find more Passover recipes next time.:la:

Kill Me Baby had one of the most humdrum episodes yet.:iconkikuplz:Almost fell asleep. Apparently, next week will be the last episode. I thought it'd be like a more demented Azumanga Daioh or something, but it really flopped. It wasn't so bad I couldn't watch, or hope for it to get better. But, it's still sad.:iconlietplz:
In Buster Keel, Keel and Lavie's souls were sucked into a gourd, because they wouldn't get out of the way of 2 'adventurers'. They wanted to kill the Bird of Paradise monster. The bird's protecting the village and its treasure. The adventurers had told the villagers that the bird was poisoning their water supply. The adventurers were just after the treasure, which if moved, the volcano would explode and wipe out the village. Keel's soul shown his true form as a dragon ape. Keel crushed the soul eater inside the gourd. Then, their souls were spewed back into their bodies. Blue and Keel beat the crap out of the adventurers. The adventurers were the ones who poisoned the water. They revealed their true form at the end. They're actually Gold and Silver of the Ayakashi group.

deviantART faves: Best Friends Ming Dynasty 2 I did not make these! First, another great drawing from an artist I watch. He usually does a lot of flash kind of stuff. Second, an amazing drawing of China from Hetalia in clothing from the Ming Dynasty era. Really cool. It's odd that a lot of fanart of Hetalia is better than the original art... I've been noticing that lately.

Pi Day 2012!

Mood::icondenmarkgrinplz:

This was actually yesterday, but I think it's interesting.:iconeestiplz:Yay for pi!:dummy:No, not the 'pie' that you eat. The mathematical symbol for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Although, some people make fun of it by having pie. It was yesterday because of the date: 3/14. Pi's first 3 digits are 3.14. But, they've currently calculated over 1 trillion digits past the decimal. It's an irrational and transcendental number, meaning it will continue infinitely without repeating. The symbol was first used in 1706, but didn't become popular until it was adopted by a Swiss mathematician in 1737. It was also National Potato Chip Day. Potato chips are good! So many different flavors out there! One of my faves is salt and vinegar.:drool:A little goes a long way though. Used to love jalapeno potato chips. Sadly, I can't have them anymore. I love bold flavors. Today's World Consumer Rights Day.

Started the day feeling really down yesterday.:iconwtfukplz:But, in the late afternoon I finally felt back to my old self. Thank goodness! The only problem is my pain in my shoulder came back in full force. Well, if it's not one thing, it's another...:iconohboyamericaplz:The weather was a bit weird too. Looked really dreary and rainy. Suddenly, late in the afternoon, the rain let up and it was sunny. Still cold, but nice and sunny. I wonder if my mood had something to do with the weather?:iconchibiaustriaplz:

Kill Me Baby has been kind of boring lately. Might switch to something else for that day when the next anime season starts. When I finish Pandora Hearts, I might watch another 'old' series. Like, Code Geass or something. (One that I keep hearing about, but never got around to.) That way I can try some anime that's finished up already. Might eventually watch Bleach, but I kind of doubt it. I remember seeing the first couple of episodes in my college's anime club. I was just iffy about it. But, I heard that the show is finally ending at the end of this month. So that reminded me that maybe when it's over, I could go back to it. But, that's a big maybe.:iconnorwayunimpressedplz:(It's a really long series. Not as long as Naruto, but it's been around for years.)

On Friday, we just grabbed our challah from the store, and ate out. Went to Stella's. Had their Caesar salad, which wasn't as great as their house salad. (Where they pile a ton of cheese on it.:iconchibipolandplz:) But, I got to try something else. Also, had the 'Mediterranean Tortellini'. Really good stuff!:iconitalyplz:Like a casserole with tortellini, red bell peppers, olives, feta, artichoke hearts, chicken, pesto, marinara, and mozzarella cheese melted on top. There was very little chicken, though.:iconwtfromanoplz:

Went through all of Fairy Tail's 3 original soundtracks online. Really cool all around! Found quite a few new tunes.:sing:

Caught up to the current episodes of Phi Brain. Wasn't that far behind. Just by one episode. Daily Lives of High School Boys has been really hilarious so far!:rofl:The best parts have been with the 'literary girl' segments. Just makes me bust a gut! (Especially this last time.)

Got a new pair of PJ's. Kind of cute with cats. It says 'purr' just beneath the main cat. It's got blue cats and a purple background.

I 'Gaia-nized' 4 of my characters from Alliance, on Tek Tek. I love how you can go through all the items ever made on Gaia. Shadow and Vince were pretty close to what I envisioned. Others...not so much.:iconswissplz:This is just to get an idea for what some characters may look like. It's fun too!

Haven't been able to play my clarinet much this week.:iconlietplz:Most of the time it's because of the pain. I'm hoping to play a little today, though.

Still haven't found a new drama for Tuesday. Maybe I'll look this weekend. Couldn't decide on a new manga for yesterday's slot either. Again, maybe I'll look for that this weekend.

For Tuesday night's dinner I made my own 'creation'. It was tuna, elbow macaroni, canned tomatoes, canned garbanzo beans, capers, peas, a little salt and pepper, olive oil, oregano, dried lemon peel, and garlic powder all mixed together. It turned out awesome!:iconchibispainplz:Kind of Mediterranean inspired. Would have put olives in, but we didn't have any.:icongermanyplz:

Went to my orthopedist appointment on Tuesday. Made me feel very uncomfortable, and wasn't very personable.:icontinoplz:He made me move my body in different ways. Which is understandable, because that way he can see how things are working. But, his remarks were kind of rude.:iconromanoplz:He noticed a little something, but he couldn't tell anything by it. So, he ordered a '3-phase' bone scan. I've heard those can take up most of the day to do. Oh joy!:iconyaykumajiroplz:(The scanning itself doesn't take all day. It's the breaks in between those 3 scans.) They're supposed to call us to make an appointment for it soon. So, I still don't know what's really going on.:iconkikuplz:

In Fairy Tail, Cana finally told Gildarts that he's her father. Zeref looks pissed, and he killed off the guild master of Grimoire Heart like it was nothing. A black dragon is coming and I think when Zeref mentioned Acnologia, it was its name. The S-class exam is on hold now.

deviantART fave: Rock Paper Scissors I did not make this! Another funny T-shirt design by an artist I watch. I always thought it was a bit weird that paper could beat rock, too. The rock could rip a part the paper easily.

Youtube:
Another great vocaloid vid. One of their most popular songs (one of my faves too). Video was drawn out by a fan, and I think sung by one too:

A cool vocaloid vid. This one sung by Kaito. Interesting one. People seem to be obsessed with making Alice in Wonderland themed songs with vocaloids. Kind of weird, but cool at the same time. (I love Alice in Wonderland, but it gets tiring if it's overused.):
